Man Up tells the story of a boy and his sister, Jill and Duncan, who come of age together on a ranch in the West. They begin the story as very similar children—both are expressive, fun, and quirky. Jill loves dancing; Duncan nurses a burgeoning obsession with frogs. But their path through life splits when Duncan begins struggling to reconcile his identity with society’s expectations of what it means to be a man. The closer he comes to reaching an ideal of masculinity, the further he strays from his closest relationships—and from himself. Can he find his way back?
The show is based on the true stories of many men and women. Together we hope to encourage a bigger conversation about gender expectations, masculinity, and the culture we all come together to create.
Shows November 1, 2, 3, & 8, 9, and 10 in Boulder's Theater O. Tickets available soon.Cover Art design by Walker Cahall
